Brief Profile of Dr.N.Chandrasekharan Nair
Dr.N.Chandrasekharan Nair was born in Sasthamkotta, Kollam, Kerala on 27th June 1924 in a middle class family. His father Sri. K. Neelakanta Pillai was a farmer and mother Smt. Janaky Amma was a pious housewife.
After completing his studies and 4 years of teaching in high school in Kollam, Dr N. Chandrasekharan Nair joined as Lecturer in Hindi in the Mahatma Gandhi College, Trivandrum on 15-10-1951. Dr Nair got M.A Degree in Hindi from Banaras Hindu University and Ph.D. from Bihar University. Dr.N.Chandrasekharan Nair pursued vigorously both academics as well as his literary works along with the routine teaching career in the colleges. He became Professor and Head of the Department of Hindi in 1967 and was transferred to the N.S.S College, Ottapalam. He established there Gandhi Vigyan Bhavan and was nominated as Chairman of Gandhi Centenary Committee. During that time, he was nominated Chairman of Hindi Text Book Committee besides so many other academic committees.
At that time he was honoured with two honorary degree’s by Akhil Bharat Sanskrit Sammelan, Maharashtra presided over by Smt.Indira Gandhi, late Prime minister of India, ie. Doctor of Literature and Master of Education.
Dr Nair was renowned for the literary works from a very early age nationally and internationally. Dr Nair received many prestigious national awards. He was deputed as a major research fellow of the University Grants Commission and again appointed as Emeritus Professor by U.G.C. He has been honoured in the 3rd World Hindi Conferences on 30 Nov. 1983 along with 39 renowned Hindi writers of the world. Till 2008 Dr.Chandrsekharan Nair received seven National Awards from Govt of India and 53 state level awards for his fifty literary works had been written by him .Dr.Nair has been nominated as salahkar in 15 Ministries of Govt. of India. He received Six Abhinandan Grandha from Sree Narasimha Rao, Foreign Minister of Govt of India, His Excellency governor of Kerala Mr Rachayya, Sri Lal Krishana Advani, Minister for communication, Govt of India and His Excellency Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, President of India.
Till 1980 Dr Nair was the former Head of the Department of Hindi at Mahatma Gandhi College, Trivandrum.
Dr Chandra Sekharan Nair laid the foundation for Kerala Hindi Sahitya Academy in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala in 1982 and since then he is the Chairman of the Academy. Kerala Hindi Sathiya Academy created a congenial atmosphere for Hindi Literature in Kerala and Academy honoured more than 150 writers. Academy publishes books and periodicals. Academy’s periodical “Shodh Patrika” is internationally renowned.
Dr Nair has a resourceful library in his house which is enabling Ph.D. students and other researchers to pursue their research and academics. By Dr Nair’s personal effort six researchers secured Ph.D. and now they are professors in Colleges.
During 1989-93 Dr Nair was nominated as a senator to the University of Kerala by the Governor of Kerala.
Dr.Chandrasekaharan Nair is a well-known painter. He has drawn more than hundred paintings, and the one-man shows by Dr Nair have been exhibited at Kerala House New Delhi and the Museum Hall, Thiruvananthapuram. One of his works were exhibited in the Kerala House, New Delhi, inaugurated by Dr. Karan Singh. State level painting exhibitions are being conducted periodically.
Dr.Nair is a famous journalist and established his merit and fame as a brave and courageous editor.
Dr.N.Chandrasekharan Nair is a highly respected personality among learned men, spiritual leaders and social and cultural activists.

The auto Biography of Dr. Nair was released by His Highness Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Varma Maharaja by presenting the first copy of Sri. Ramesh Chennithala, KPCC president on the 1st October 2008. So many reputed personalities like Dr.G.BalaMohan Thamby (Former V.C), Padmasri P.Parameswaran (Director, Bharatiya Vichar Kendra), Sri.P.Gopinathan Nair (Famous Gandhian), Dr.Babu Paul (Retd. Chief Secretary) has offered felicitations to Dr Nair.
Dr.N.Chandrasekharan Nair has been given awards on the name of Indian scholars and leaders like Madan Mohan Malavya, Vivekananda, Premchand, Ezhuthachan, Kesavasuth, Poet Mulla Dawood, Maharshi Vidhydhi Raja, Sri Ganesh Sankar Vidhyarthi etc.
He was the advisor to various Ministries’ Hindi Salakar Samithi. He received the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s award for Hindi writers in non-Hindi speaking areas for 2004-05 and the 2008 Maharashtra Hindi Sahitya Academy award. In 2014, Dr Nair was awarded “Hindi Ratna Samman” by the Hindi Bhawan, New Delhi.
Dr N Chandra Sekharan Nair received the prestigious “Vishva Hindi Samman” from Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh at the 10th Vishva Hindi Samelan hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India in Bhopal on September 12th, 2015. Recognising his life time contribution for the propagation of Hindi all over the world the Ministry of External Affairs – Government of India conferred the Vishva Hindi Samman to Dr Nair. Shri Shivraj Chouhan, Chief Minister of MP and many eminent scholars and personalities were on the Dais.
Dr Nair, a strong Gandhian, took Hindi Propagation has his Dharma and his devotion to Gandhiji. Dr Nair for the last 72 years propagated Hindi in a non-Hindi Speaking Southern State of India, Kerala. He has campaigned to have Hindi declared India's official language.
Dr Nair is a famous writer both in Hindi and Malayalam. He is renowned as a Poet, Novelist, Dramatist, Story writer, Research Scholar, A well-known artist in painting and critic in both art subject and literary field. He has received seven national awards along with fifty nine other awards. Dr Nair was Awarded major research fellow of U.G.C and Emeritus Professor of U.G.C.
Dr Nair has written more than sixty original books in Hindi. More than a dozen works have been selected as text books by the Indian Universities. Gave “Preface” to many well-known works of noted writers. Dr Nair has published articles in more than 800 periodicals in India and abroad. Seven Professors have obtained Ph.D. Degree on the works of Nair and his personalities.
